Edinburgh

Day 12 - Travel from Edinburgh to London

We traveled by rail back to London yesterday. It was a very pleasant trip on one of the first class carriages. We traveled down the eastern coast and were privy to some terrific views of the ocean and the land close to the ocean. It was quite beautiful until we passed Newcastle after which it was pretty much a normal view of the UK--gentle rolling hills between each of the towns.

I took advantage of the trip to digitize all of our video so far and start the process of encoding it for REVVER. I even managed to use the train's wireless Internet connection to upload a few of them. The wireless was a really nice freebie touch to the first class experience, but the connection was somewhat flakey--for example uploading photos to Flickr was absolutely hopeless. I'll need to catch up when we get back to Colorado although I may try to upload a few later this evening.

Day 11 - Edinburgh the City

Yesterday we spent the day in the city. Festival is going on so many streets were closed for traffic. The energy in the air was tangible throughout the downtown.

In the morning we went to Edinburgh Castle. They have added stadium seats to the lower redoubt for a tattoo that occurs only in August.

God awful if you ask me. I think they probably could have worked something out that was a little less anachronistic.

Day 9 - To Scotland!

We got out of Wycombe just in time to catch the train. It was running a little late and there was little room on the first train to Banbury. The train from Banbury to Edinburgh left at about 1 PM and should take about 6 hours an 20 minutes to get north to Edinburgh. We're in for a long, and perhaps, boring ride. Our daughter is sitting with her game boy playing some little thing. We're sharing the seats with a nice fellow with curly hair who wanted to know how our stay was going so far.

We've had terrific weather so far--it seems that the Saunders Dome of Great Weather is still in affect. Apparently as we travel north, the clouds are gathering in the south and a storm warning is in affect. Up north, it appears that the clouds are breaking and we're going to end up with quite nice weather--scattered showers.
