Day 15 - Home Again

We flew from London to Toronto today. We were told that we would have to clear both Canadian and US customs and board the plane in about an hour and 15 minutes. We rushed through to the Canadian Customs only to find out we were misled. We moved onto US Customs where the line was pretty slow.

Despite our challenges, we made it to our second plane without any trouble. I even had a bit of time to pick up a bottle of scotch from the duty free in Toronto.

We are in a newish Air Canada Airbus with a touch screen TV, emPower, and a USB port to recharge. The TV provides on-demand programming (movies and TV) and games. The power doesn't require an inverter as it boasts a standard plug.

Wine is Charged for on International Flights?

Much to my suprise, this evening, I found out that wine is costing $5 on United flights even overseas. It used to be that when you flew to Europe, you would have complimentary beverages. Apparently if we were flying in the other direction over the other ocean, it would still be free.

Go figure.

Metal Knives on Flights? Plus New Music?

Since the horrible events in NYC several years ago, plastic knives have been used in Business and First Class cabins. Today I was upgraded to First on the way back from Philadelphia. They fed me an oriental chicken salad for lunch. To my surprise the meal had a metal knife. I never really understood why the dull, nearly useless knives were taken off flights when forks were left alone.

DIA has changed the pipe organ music with rock-a-billy music in the train/train station. This happened in the last 36 hours because I flew out of DIA on Thursday and flew back in today.
