Joost

Over the last few days I've had a spike in traffic from itbusiness.ca. I decided to do a little sleuthing and found that they have quoted me from my Joost posting. Thanks for the link!

Joost has now opened the beta up to friends in the early beta test.  Basically, those who are beta testers can now send as many invites as they want to "friends".  So far I have invited 46 new Joosters.

Joost is a video service that allows you to watch TV shows--mostly older shows that Joost could get the rights to show.

It requires a broadband connection to view content and features "widgets" that allow for live chat while watching a show, clocks, and other potential experience wideners.  The widget part of the system is open to allow third parties to extend the function of the viewing experience.

Today I received an email from the Joost Team to join the beta. They have created an OSX client but it has to be operated on an Intel based Mac.

Joost promises a combination of the TV experience and social networking. For example, live chat is available while you watch the content. It apparently uses a peer to peer scheme to stream content directly over a broadband connection using H.264.MPEG-4 AVC.

Installing the application was a snap. It was a quick download. It unzipped quickly. I pulled it into the Applications folder. Clicked twice on it and it launched immediately.
