Healthy-Hide Chews Choked My Dog

BAD BAD CHEWIESMy wife bought these little chewies for our new little pup thinking that they would be just the right size for him. He is in a constant state of chewing *something* right now because he is somewhere between 8 and 10 weeks old. Felix has found them to be a very tempting treat and they have effectively distracted him from chewing clothes, shoes, sheets, us, and so on. Nice!

They are fortified with vitamins and oils--seemingly to make the coat shiny. They are small for a small dog's teeth. They seemed pretty safe.

I know that many people don't think that rawhide chews are such a good idea for puppies. We've used rawhide on and off with a variety of pups for many years. In fact, Felix is the sixth dog I've been caretaker to. I have had dogs since the day I was born, literally.

Early this morning, Felix woke me up to let him out to do his business. He is doing a pretty good job of waking me up at night to take him outside. It was about 4 am. Unfortunately, after he has woken up he thinks that everybody else should be awake and begins to play, make noise, nip, and generally be a nuisance. I gave him a rawhide chewie and slipped back to sleep.

It wasn't Felix who had any kind of issue. He settled down, chewed for a little bit and then went straight back to sleep. Fremont quietly nabbed the chewie and began relishing the little tidbit. My wife noticed that Fremont was making a horrible slurpy chewing noise that wasn't stopping. It wasn't a normal chewing noise.

Quinn has Stage 5 Lymphoma

Quinn Waiting for Paula

I am very sad today. Our little guy Quinn has been feeling under the weather for a little over a week. He has been eating sporadically and has had a hard time keeping his food down. He also has terrible gastro-intestinal issues going on right now. After many visits to the vet and then a stint in the Emergency this past weekend, a specialist has diagnosed him with Stage 5 Lymphoma. The consensus is that treating him with chemo will likely not give us positive results and if they did, his days are severely numbered.

We are busy saying goodbye to him while he still feels relatively good.

My Headset...

I finally found my headset. I suspected that one of my dogs had taken it, but I wasn't sure. They have been taking things into our backyard for months now. Usually it is just things like plastic glasses or straws. Sometimes the occasional box.

Buried under several feet of snow, chewed, mangled, and destroyed I found the headset this weekend.

Bluetooth Headset

This was the best headset I've owned. Oh well...
