DUN, Sprint, the Treo 650, and a Rehash of a Post

Back in March of 2006, I wrote a blog post on my old blogger account on using DUN via bluetooth to get online with a Mac. Then, I wrote the following:

1) Turn bluetooth ON on your phone but leave DUN OFF. This is critical. It took me a dogs age to figure this out. It isn't documented anywhere.
2) Go into your bluetooth menu on the laptop and setup bluetooth device.
3) Choose phone.
4) follow the instructions on the laptop. It will give you a passcode which you will enter into the Treo
5) Turn ON DUN on the Treo
6) Open Internet connect on your laptop
7) enter #777 in the phone number DO NOT enter a username and password
8) Hit connect.
9) BAM you should be on the Internet.

Since I swapped laptops--the older Macbook Pro I worked on at WESTAF for the newer one I bought myself upon leaving--DUN had not been working. Recently, to get XP working on my laptop, I ended up having to do a clean install of Leopard. On a lark today, I decided to try and connect to the Internet via my cellphone. My daughter is at swimclass, so I'm sitting watching and taking care of some computer tasks. So, I set things up and it seems that it is somewhat simpler on the Leopard than it was on 10.4. In Preferences, go to System Preferences, Choose Network, Enable DUN on your phone, Setup bluetooth device from your bluetooth menu on the computer, pair your phone, back over in System Preferences, choose Sprint as the carrier and don't use a username or password, enter #777 for the phone number and hit connect. It works very well.

Note, if you DON'T have a data plan, this will probably work but cost you a lot of money.

Anyhow, I'm pleased as punch that I have DUN setup again. It makes getting on the Internet that much easier.
