Drupalcon Day 3

On the third day of Drupalcon I attended quite a few interesting sessions.

The first session was entitled "What Makes Websites Work? Bringing Information Architecture into the Drupal Development Process." What was nice about this session was its validation of pingVision's process of Drupal development.  The pingVision team has embraced the user-centric methodology and integrated an Agile system of project management into the process.  Basically this means that a client's project is broken up into user stories, descriptions of how the user interacts with the system, which are further broken down into tasks.  These stories enter into an iterative cycle.  Breaking a project down into small chunks allows for easy digestion of large systems and provides a pretty accurate assessment of resources have been consumed and how far the project has proceeded.

I then attended the "Drupal Podcast Live".  Hopefully it will be made public soon.  It was a fun and laid back discussion.

Following the podcast, I attended the "Drupal Association" meeting.  The association gave an account of what they have managed to achieve and where they see the association going in the near future.  They also had an open call for Board Members.  After a discussion with Laura, I think I will run for the board.  They have expressed a need to figure out how funding projects can be achieved and it just so happens I have a deep knowledge of nonprofits and the grant making world.  It would be a lot of fun building a proposal application in Drupal.

In the afternoon I spent part of the afternoon in an informal BoF (Birds of a Feather) meeting talking about growing business in Drupal.  It was an interesting conversation.

Last night, a group of us went out for dinner.  We stopped at one outdoor restaurant that had fabulous gazpacho but didn't seem particularly interested in serving us.  We had a beer and appetizer and then went searching for other real food.  During our trek I snapped many pictures--this one is my favourite from the evening.

We ultimately came to a Tapas restaurant which had fabulous grilled squid.  I wish I remember what the name of it.  The food was marvelous, with the exception of badly over cooked tuna.  After a late dinner Greg, Kevin, Rad, and myself took the metro back to our neighborhood where we came across lights in the sky.  We stopped to take a few pictures again.

We'll be checking out the building tomorrow--I believe it is an art museum focusing on automatons.

Actually, that Information

Actually, that Information Architecture session was done by a pair of my fine coworkers at CivicActions, not pingVision :)

I guess the rapid banging

I guess the rapid banging out of my post made for some confusion. Yes, CivicActions presented and I was pleased that it paralleled our process at pingVision closely. Validation is always a good thing.

It was a GREAT conference.

I thought the same thing on

I thought the same thing on the first read. I think that by "What was nice about this session was its validation of pingVision's process of Drupal development." he means that pingVision is already doing more or less the process described at the session.

Ooh, good point -- I hadn't

Ooh, good point -- I hadn't read it that way. Nevermind then :) Glad to hear it!
