Drupalcon Day 2

The second day of Drupalcon was terrific.  Kevin, Rad, and I started out by going for breakfast at a counter that had pretty much no English skills.  That, by the way, I have found interesting.  English is not spoken very much at all in Spain.  It has given me the desire to go home and learn the language.  Perhaps it is an exercise for me and my daughter to do together.  It was a curious experience at this little restaurant.  Rad asked if they had breakfast to which he was asked, "Do you want a sandwich?"  "No, do you have breakfast on plates?"  This was greeted with a reluctantness.  Finally the lady running the counter told us that we would have "Huevos et Bacon."  I've never been told at a restaurant exactly what it was I going to eat before.

The sessions yesterday were quite good.  I attended one that dealt with a new drawing module, one on FLEX, a session on Drupal and the future of news, one on--essentially--how the Drupal community needs to look at the bigger picture and cooperate to ensure we are collectively successful, and one on testing.  I'm pretty sure that I'm missing a session in there somehow.

What I took away, yesterday, was a sense of how large the Drupal community is becoming and how creative the group is as a whole.  I heard many voices from different countries saying the same thing--that we need to be approaching Drupal from a user-centric standpoint.  I heard "Agile" over and over again.  I listened to people who are all struggling with the same issues we're struggling with at pingVision.  I heard the need for cooperation--which, to me, seems rather likely given the enormous number of participants at the convention this year.

One minor nit:  The facility that we are using is great.  It is large and spacious with great rooms.  The wifi Internet connection seems to be holding up very well given that at any given time well over 300 people are using it.  However, it seems that the moment the last session is done, we are being bustled out of the building.  It would be terrific if there was some kind of formal mixer at the end of the day where like minded people can, perhaps, buy a drink and chat.  Like I said, it is a minor nit.

After the conference, Kevin, Laura, and I went back to her apartment to do some work that needed attending to.  She has Internet at her place, and we do not.  We worked quite late and then went out for a quite a delightful dinner.  I wish that I had written down the name of the place.

It was a good day.
