pingVision's New Look (in Drupal 6) and a Year in RetrospectSubmitted by matthew on Wed, 2008-07-09 11:08 |
The pingVision site has re-launched with a new look and a brand new version of Drupal. Laura mentioned that there has been almost a year of architecture invested in the site. Almost to the day today, I was hired by pingVision and one of the first things we were doing was working on brainstorming the architecture. Client projects came and went pushing back our own work--clients come first--slowly but surely the site came together. In the last few weeks there has been a heavy push to get the site ready for an unveiling.
This has me thinking about looking at the last year and how things have shifted and changed for me over the last year. One year ago I was getting ready for the Association of American Culture's conference, which took place in Denver, as a presenter. I was, literally, in the last few days of my time with WESTAF where I helped conceptualise and architect some pretty major systems for the arts non-profit community. They included:
- Artjob Online
- ArtistsRegister, PerformingArtsRegister, and WritersRegister
- CultureGrants Online (twenty granting makers using systems)
- ZAPPlication
- CallForEntry
- DenverCultureFeed (one of the first public Drupal sites I worked on)
At this point I had spent time in Vancouver, British Columbia learning Drupal--two trips in fact--from my friends at Raincity Studios and Bryght. Since then I have seen Drupal 4, 5, and now 6 being actively used. I have been to two Drupalcons. I presented Drupal for Nonprofits at the NetSquared Conference. I've worked on many client sites for pingVision including:
- SpectrumMagazine.org
- Popsci.com
- RedBlueAmerica.com
- ETR Associates
- SilverPlanet
- BikesBelong
I have thrown myself head on into the Drupal Community helping with the Knight Drupal Initiative and Evangelizing Drupal amongst the nonprofit community through blogging, engagement on the TechSoup Forums, and the NonProfits in Second Life community.
pingVision has moved from two to three to five suites in Boulder. The staff has grown and changed to include sixteen staff members. Nothing stays static. My time at pingVision so far has been fabulous. As I projected a year ago, I have learned so much. I am fortunate to have two very smart and talented people (Laura and Katherine) to be leading and directing me. Finally, I feel like I have become much more a part of the Drupal community than I had been.
So, with a fresh new look for the pingVision site, I start my second year with the company looking forward to another incredible year of personal growth.

Nice change!
Awesome change, good design and usability.
Thanks!
I didn't have very much to do with the new design, but I agree that things look great and work well.
