Amazon Cancels Colorado Amazon Associate Accounts

Early this morning I received this email in my inbox:

We are writing from the Amazon Associates Program to inform you that the Colorado government recently enacted a law to impose sales tax regulations on online retailers. The regulations are burdensome and no other state has similar rules. The new regulations do not require online retailers to collect sales tax. Instead, they are clearly intended to increase the compliance burden to a point where online retailers will be induced to "voluntarily" collect Colorado sales tax -- a course we won't take.

We and many others strongly opposed this legislation, known as HB 10-1193, but it was enacted anyway. Regrettably, as a result of the new law, we have decided to stop advertising through Associates based in Colorado. We plan to continue to sell to Colorado residents, however, and will advertise through other channels, including through Associates based in other states.

Amazon EC2 Cloud and Drupal Development

The Amazon EC2 Cloud is inexpensive, scalable, and you only pay for what you use. You can turn instances on or off at will which gives you extraordinary flexibility.

Each instance is the “equivalent of a system with a 1.7Ghz x86 processor, 1.75GB of RAM, 160GB of local disk, and 250Mb/s of network bandwidth.” To buy such a machine might cost $500 before hosting.

What I Am Reading

I have added a new widget to my left toolbar--what I am reading. I will, from time to time, review the book in question and perhaps pull some quotes. If you plan on buying the book in question, please support my site by clicking on the Amazon link and purchasing it that way. I'll get a small portion of the proceeds on the purchase price.
